The terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were dismissed by an Abuja Federal High Court on Friday.
Eight of Kanu’s 15 counts were dismissed by Justice Binta Nyako.
While ruling on Kanu’s preliminary objection to all of the accusations, the judge dismissed the eight charges.
“I studied the counts, and Counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14 do not reveal any offense against the defendant.”
“‘Some allegations are shown in Counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 15. “On those counts, the court will proceed to try the defendant,” Justice Nyako added.
The Nigerian government had filed 15 counts against the IPOB commander, including terrorism and treasonable felony.
The Federal Government filed allegations against Kanu that bordered on terrorism.
Since his arrest in June 2021, the IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services, or DSS.
Kanu was apprehended in Kenya and deported to Nigeria, where he will face Justice Nyako.
He was apprehended and charged with advocating for the creation of Biafra.
In a fundamental human rights lawsuit against the federal government, the IPOB leader, on the other hand, refuted the claims.
