Lotanna Ojukwu, the younger brother of the late Biafra warlord Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has proposed ways in which President Bola Tinubu can address the sit-at-home and insecurity challenges in the Southeast region of Nigeria.
He suggested that Tinubu should engage in discussions with Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in order to find a solution to the insecurity issue in the region. Lotanna believes that such discussions would help alleviate the pressure causing the sit-at-home protests and improve the security situation.
During an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Lotanna also called on the Nigerian government to reach out to the Finnish government regarding the activities of Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based individual linked to the escalated violence during the sit-at-home protests in the Southeast.
Lotanna stated, “I appeal to Tinubu to intervene in this matter. One-fifth of the country is being held hostage, preventing people from going to work and conducting their businesses. This situation has had a negative impact on our economy and the moral fabric of our society. It is a pressing security issue that Tinubu, who has proven himself capable of tackling security challenges, must urgently address.”
He further emphasized that those perpetrating the acts of violence are demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, and since the court has ruled in favor of his release, Tinubu should engage in dialogue with Kanu. He also suggested that Tinubu should use diplomatic channels to engage with the British and Finnish governments to address the actions of Simon Ekpa.
Lotanna believes that diplomatic arrangements with these countries could help put an end to Ekpa’s inflammatory comments and the violence associated with the sit-at-home protests, as Ekpa has claimed that the violence will cease once Kanu is released.
