Simi, a popular Nigerian singer, whose real name is Simisola Kosoko, recently revealed in an interview with reality star Tacha on Cool FM, Lagos, that she has never experienced heartbreak in a relationship.
During the interview, Simi clarified that her latest song, “Stranger,” which delves into the theme of heartbreak, was not based on her personal experiences. She emphasized that she sees herself as an advocate for those who have gone through heartbreak.
Simi stated, “I don’t think I have ever been heartbroken. I don’t know, that song [‘Stranger’] came to me very easily. I guess, maybe I’m just a champion for people that have taken breakfasts [experienced heartbreak] severally [laughs]. I’m here for them. I mean, somebody has to be.”
She further explained that she wanted to explore a different perspective on love in her music. Specifically, she wanted to highlight the idea of being in a relationship where one starts to change and compromise in ways they never thought they would. Eventually, they may look at themselves and realize they have transformed into someone unrecognizable.
Simi believed that this perspective would resonate with people, particularly those currently going through a heartbreak. Thus, she aimed to capture those emotions in her song.
