Renowned comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has expressed his belief that the Nigerian comedy industry deserves global recognition, similar to Afrobeats.
During the unveiling of the unscripted African Original LOL (Last One Laughing Naija) comedy series, Basketmouth highlighted the potential of Nigerian comedians to enjoy international acclaim.
He emphasized his vision of Nigerian comedy being globally recognized and saw the comedy series as a perfect opportunity to break into the global market.
While Afrobeats has successfully penetrated the international music scene, Basketmouth believes that Nigerian comedy is yet to establish its own prominent position on the global stage. With Prime Video’s availability in over 200 countries worldwide, Basketmouth sees it as the ideal platform to showcase the talents of Nigerian comedians.
He expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the comedy series marks the birth of the Nigerian comedy industry’s introduction to the rest of the world, providing a perfect platform to achieve global recognition.
The comedy series will feature ten Nigerian comedians, including Okey Bakassi, Buchi, Acapella, Sabinus, KieKie, Taaooma, and IGoSave, who will compete in the comedic competition.
