The City of Houston, located in the United States of America, has officially designated July 7th as “Davido Day” in recognition of the Nigerian afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston made the proclamation, which was announced in a statement released in Houston, Texas. The Mayor declared July 7, 2023, as Davido Day in honor of the artist. Davido himself shared a copy of the statement via his Instastory, expressing his gratitude for the recognition.
The Mayor’s proclamation follows Davido’s highly successful sold-out concert at the renowned Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It is worth noting that a similar honor was bestowed upon fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid in 2019, when Governor Mark Dayton of Minnesota declared October 6 as Wizkid Day after the artist’s historic sold-out show at the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis.
