The recent appointments made into the Benue State Civil Service by the previous administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom have been invalidated by the current Governor, Fr Hyacinth Alia. Additionally, several promotions, postings, and transfers made by the previous administration have been reversed.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, it was announced that civil servants who have retired but are still occupying their offices must vacate immediately.
The statement outlines the directives as follows:
- All appointments made into the State Civil Service by the previous administration from May 2022 to the present are nullified with immediate effect.
- Retired civil servants who are still occupying their offices due to extensions or contract appointments are required to retire immediately.
- Civil servants who are eligible for retirement but have not yet submitted their retirement letters or notices are instructed to do so promptly and proceed with their retirement.
- Individuals appointed as Permanent Secretaries from January 2023 to the present should revert to their previous positions.
- Postings and transfers made within the state civil service from October 2022 to the present are nullified. The affected staff members must return to their former ranks, stations, or offices without delay.
