Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has urged the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu to prevent Nigeria from descending into anarchy in light of the ongoing killings in certain states.
Obi expressed deep concern and sadness over the recent wave of terrorist attacks and killings in Plateau, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Benue states. He pointed out that a total of 226 Nigerians have lost their lives in these incidents.
Taking to Twitter, the former governor of Anambra State wrote: “The continued horrible spate of all forms of criminality, especially visceral bloodletting and killings, as witnessed recently in Plateau where over 120 people were killed, 50 killed in Sokoto, 31 in Zamfara, and 25 in Benue, are very depressing and extremely worrisome.”
He emphasized that these fatalities represent not just numbers but the tragic loss of human lives—individuals who were part of families, relatives, and friends. Obi acknowledged the efforts made by governments and security agencies but appealed for more decisive action to address the situation and prevent further deterioration.
Obi further stressed that the government and security agencies must not allow the country to continue on the path towards anarchy. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the affected families and prayed for the souls of the deceased to rest in eternal peace.
