Simon Ekpa, a well-known Biafra agitator and the Prime Minister of Biafra Republic in Exile (BRGIE), has called on the Department of State Security (DSS) to allow two doctors who were previously denied access to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to be readmitted. Last week, the DSS rejected an independent medical team brought by Kanu’s family and associates, despite the clearance of two doctors by the DSS’s medical unit to treat Kanu’s worsening ear condition. Ekpa, a Finnish lawyer, expressed his condemnation of the actions taken by certain expelled IPOB members to obstruct the process.
In a statement posted on his official Twitter handle, Ekpa clarified that the two doctors were chosen by Kanu himself and their visitation was part of a broader effort to arrange necessary medical care, including ear surgery, for Kanu. He emphasized that the selection of these doctors was made by Kanu, not by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Kanunta, or Fine Boy. Ekpa also highlighted a similar incident in August of the previous year when another doctor chosen by Kanu was denied visitation at the last minute. Ejimakor’s persistence led to obtaining an independent medical opinion, which played a crucial role.
Ekpa pointed out that the expelled individuals, namely Chinasa Nworu, Chika Edozie, and others, are aware of these facts but continue to engage in blackmail and spread falsehoods against Ejimakor and Kanu’s family. He clarified that neither the DSS nor Ejimakor is arranging for DSS doctors to perform surgery on Kanu, as the DSS lacks a hospital and qualified surgeons for such procedures. The purpose of the doctors’ visit was to examine Kanu and provide recommendations for surgery to be carried out at a hospital of Kanu’s choice, with doctors chosen by him. Ekpa emphasized that only Kanu has the exclusive right to select doctors for himself.
Ekpa criticized the DOS (Directorate of State) and Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor for blocking the two doctors, which has resulted in a delay in obtaining the necessary surgery for Kanu and represents a significant sabotage to his health. The doctors’ recommendations could potentially be utilized to demand Kanu’s release for the surgery, depending on the advice provided. Ekpa demanded that the DSS immediately readmit the two doctors and facilitate their visitation to Kanu, considering that they are his chosen doctors.
