Senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has advised the Department of State Services (DSS) to transfer the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation, according to reports.
President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele on Friday, and the DSS announced on Saturday that he was in their custody for investigative reasons. Falana has cautioned the DSS against mishandling the case due to legal technicalities. He argues that the DSS lacks the authority to investigate and prosecute Emefiele for allegations of money laundering and other economic crimes.
Falana suggests that Emefiele should be handed over to an agency with the constitutional power to conduct such investigations.
