Guinness World Records has officially recognized Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, known as Hilda Baci, as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon. However, the organization adjusted her final total to 93 hours and 11 minutes.
Last month, the 27-year-old chef cooked continuously for 100 hours, surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set by India’s Lata Tondon.
On Tuesday, Guinness World Records explained that they deducted time from Hilda’s total due to her mistakenly taking extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early in the attempt. The organization clarified that participants in marathon records are allowed a five-minute break for every hour completed to ensure suitable rest during the prolonged duration of the records.
In a video, a representative from Guinness announced, “With a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, Hilda Baci is the new holder of the Guinness World Records title for the longest cooking marathon. Congratulations, you are officially amazing.”
