President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly taken the decision to suspend Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with immediate effect. This action is said to be in response to an ongoing investigation into the affairs of the CBN and the planned reforms within the country’s financial sector.
A concise statement released by Willie Bassey, the Director of the Information Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Friday night, confirmed this development. According to the statement, Mr. Emefiele has been instructed to promptly hand over the responsibilities of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate). The Deputy Governor will assume the role of acting Central Bank Governor until the investigation and reforms are concluded.
