President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently shared the details of his meeting with traditional leaders, where he discussed various important topics. Speaking at an interactive session with the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), Tinubu informed the royal fathers about his government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy, enhance security, create jobs, and preserve the environment. He also addressed the upcoming election of principal officers of the 10th National Assembly.
Tinubu assured the traditional rulers that he maintains an open-door policy and encouraged them to reach out to him with any concerns. He acknowledged that his administration might not get everything right all the time but emphasized the commitment to getting it right for the betterment of the country.
Regarding the removal of fuel subsidy, Tinubu appealed to the traditional leaders to instill confidence in Nigerians, assuring them that fuel prices will eventually decrease. He justified the decision by highlighting the detrimental impact of subsidizing fuel and the need to prioritize essential expenditures like salaries.
Tinubu acknowledged concerns about infrastructure development and pledged to address any obstacles hindering progress in different regions of the country. He emphasized the importance of capital projects for national development and recognized the necessity of protecting resources and boundaries.
The President urged the traditional rulers to advise individuals aspiring to elected positions on managing their ambitions and fostering harmony within the legislative house. Tinubu expressed his willingness to collaborate with any elected representative and affirmed that the Nigerian project is of paramount importance.
On the subject of security, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to prioritize the sector until all Nigerians can sleep peacefully. He emphasized the unity of the country and the fair distribution of resources to all regions. The President also stressed the need to tackle youth unemployment, as prosperity and job creation are essential for the country’s progress.
Tinubu condemned crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region and pledged to work towards leveraging the country’s diversity for prosperity, growth, and stability. He mentioned the importance of devolving power as a contribution to developmental projects.
The Sultan of Sokoto and the Ooni of Ife, representing the NCTRN, expressed their support and loyalty to President Tinubu. They assured him of their prayers and willingness to contribute to the country’s development. The traditional rulers congratulated Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima on their election victory, peaceful transition, and assumption of office. They expressed delight in the country’s unity and resilience despite challenges.
