There has been an appeal to President Bola Tinubu to grant clemency to Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Igboho, the embattled Yoruba Nation agitator. This plea came from popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, commonly known as K1 De Ultimate, who believes that pardoning Igboho would allow him to return to Nigeria.
During a live performance where he sang about the importance of peace in Nigeria, K1 De Ultimate implored Tinubu to reconcile all factions, emphasizing the unity of the nation. He stated that regardless of ethnic backgrounds, whether Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa, it is crucial for Nigerians to embrace one another. K1 De Ultimate specifically mentioned Igboho, describing him as one of their own and urging Tinubu to facilitate his return.
The musician expressed the belief that once Tinubu is firmly settled in his office, he should address this contentious issue. K1 De Ultimate called for Igboho to be allowed to return to his homeland, alongside other agitators from various regions, suggesting that their leaders should engage in roundtable discussions.
In July 2021, Interpol arrested Igboho at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic, after he fled Nigeria following a manhunt by the Department of State Services (DSS). Igboho had been declared wanted by the DSS for allegedly amassing weapons at his residence in Soka, Ibadan, Oyo State.
He was subsequently detained in a prison in Benin Republic but was released in March 2022 to receive medical treatment, on the condition that he remained within the West African country. Thus, Igboho has been confined to Cotonou since his release.
